The Perfect Storm
6:38 p.m. + 2006-06-16

Someone left the tap on.
The Mardyke's running high.
Unprepared and shivering.
The perfect way to die.

Beeches reaching out.
The whistler screams -
It's not howling.
Jagged edges like knives
Pierce the skin.
The perfect reason to cry.

The screams in the night.
The smashing against the wall.
The terror beyond the front door,
Makes the weather outside look kind.
The perfect diaster.

The little one's crying.
Put her to bed.
Kiss her goodnight.
Don't turn out the light.
She knows that everything'll be alright.
The perfect state of mind.

Silence.
Creeping.
A look across the hall.
The brush of hands.
One gentle kiss.
The perfect ending.

Someone left the tap on.
The Mardyke's running high.
Unprepared and shivering.
Unafraid to die.
Snuggled up together.
The memory's been drawn.
You and I are forever lost, in
The Perfect Storm.
